NSW: Bob Carr promises a transport hassle free New Year s Eve
New South Wales premier BOB CARR says Sydney will turn on a safe, fun New year Eve's
party without any major transport problems.
Despite claims that congestion and Y2K will keep revellers away from the city, The
Daily Telegraph reports that Mr CARR has pledged the night would be a great success.
The Premier has also downplayed reports that as few as 42 per cent of Sydneysiders
plan to brave the city on December 31.
He says transport will suffer only minor disruptions.
Trains will run 24 hours from Central and will only stop running at underground stations
in the eastern suburbs and at Town Hall, Wynyard and Circular Quay from 11.45pm to 1.15am.
Meanwhile, State Transit and CityRail have unveiled commemorative millennium tickets
which entitle commuters to between 36 and 72 hours of unlimited bus and train travel for
just $10 per adult.
