Fed: Govt wins widespread support for insurance changes

CANBERRA, Jan 21 AAP - The federal government today won near unanimous support forplans to reform public liability insurance laws in a bid to drive down premiums.
Small Business Minister Joe Hockey has written to all states urging them to back thecreation of a national compensation scheme, which would replace what he termed the lotteryof insurance payouts.
He said small businesses were being sent to the wall by skyrocketing premiums whichhad risen by up to 500 per cent.
